Girl’s Night Out

May 9th, 5:30 - 10:00 am on Saturday. For girls in grades 4-8

Join us for a night of learning to live our faith as wise consumers and decision makers. The girls will explore making wise decisions in a society filled with many choices. Through fun and interactive experiences we will learn skills on money matters, materialism, greed, sharing, and how to care for our physical and emotional being. On Saturday morning we will rise and shine ready to walk the Main Street Mile as a team of young women and a couple of older fuddy-duddys too!

You will need to fill out the registration forms for the walk and submit them to the church or school in order to get the special St. Paul’s $10.00 youth rate. As a special perk for this lock-in the kids have designed a t-shirt which we will wear on the Walk. Please RSVP to Laura May at lmay@stpauls-kcmo.org. We will begin with a taco-bar so come hungry!

Boy’s Night Out

For boys in grades 1-8, May 2nd, 6:30 pm (eat dinner first) to 9:00 am on Saturday

Get ready because we are going to play Laser Tag! You read that right! We will be boarding a school bus at 6:30 pm on Friday May 2nd, and heading to Advanced Laser Tag at 2026 Santa Fe. You’ll need to bring $15.00 for the games and some extra $$ for a snack later on. We’ll return to St. Paul’s around 10:00 for a movie and more fun. Your fearless leaders will be Wade Kerrigan, Chris Schneider and recruits! You will need to RSVP and fill out a permission slip for this. We will mail out the permission slip and the details. We’ll conclude Saturday morning with a simple breakfast before the 9:00 pick-up time.

Inaugural Maine Street Mile

May 10

“Benefiting the changing face of Main Street” Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor) -  Saturday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m., the Inaugural Main Street Mile will bring together runners, walkers, and strollers to amble or compete.

Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor) – Saturday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m., the Inaugural Main Street Mile will bring together runners, walkers, and strollers to amble or compete in a 1-Mile distance, participating in one of four heats.

About the Run:

This event has been born out of the desire to have a fundraiser for MainCor, a not-for-profit dedicated to improving the Main Street Corridor.  A running event was chosen with the goal in mind to offer an event where the participants can come and actually experience the changing face of Main Street. This event is slightly different from most running events, in that it will offer 4 heats from which to choose, which best suits one’s fitness level:  1) 39 & under 2) 40+ (Master’s) 3) Competitive 4) fun Run/Walk.  All heats will be chip timed. The Competitive heat will include Men with a sub 5-minute mile and Female with at sub 6:20-minute mile.

The Cause:

This event will choose a need along Main Street as the beneficiary each year to help draw awareness and funds to help improve the Main Street corridor. “This particular event is unique in that the event, by nature, showcases our city’s Main Street, therefore bringing together both the community and businesses from the metropolitan area, as well as right on Main Street,” said Diane Burnette, MainCor Executive Director.   “Many businesses will be rallying to draw awareness and exposure of the event as it grows year after year.”

2008 Beneficiary:

The beneficiary for our inaugural event is the Major Murray Davis Park, located just immediately south of the intersection of Main Street and Westport Road.  Major Murray Davis Park is a WWI monument to a local hero. This unique urban pocket park is a treasure in a dynamic and shifting environment. Funds raised through this event will be used to enhance and expand this public area.

Register:

Register or volunteer for the races at www.kcmainstreetmile.org or www.active.com. The entry fee includes a T-shirt.

Caring for God's Creation

. . . is a newer ministry, designed to inspire, educate and invite to action the St. Paul's community, so that we may join in caring for the life-giving environment God bestows on all creation. Our group meets the second Sunday of the month at 8:30 in the Westport Room on the third floor. Our conveners are Elizabeth Fischer (elizabethathome@gmail.com) and Bill McInerny (wmcinerny@kc.rr.com).

Pentecost Jazz Eucharist & Holy Baptism

May 11

Feast of Pentecost: As told in the book of Acts, this day is thought of as the birthday of the Christian Church.

It was a day of chaos and the movement of the spirit of God in unique ways. As a way of recognizing this day and its unique qualities, we will be having a Jazz Eucharistic at the 10:30 service on Sunday, May 11.

We encourage everyone to wear red (the color of Pentecost) for church. There will be a wonderful jazz combo led by Rod May, a member of our parish. We will be singing some well-known spirituals and a Eucharist setting from “Enriching Our Worship 1”, a new hymnal published by our denominational publisher, The Church Publishers Corporation.

If you or someone you know is interested in baptism, contact the rector for pre-baptismal instruction as soon as possible.

St. Paul's Men's Lyceum Group

May 13

8:30, location to be announced. Watch for further information.

The Lived Faith Confirmation

We seek to provide experiences as an opportunity to put into practice lived faith as engaged and caring people of faith; working to seek justice, love kindness, and to treat all people with dignity and respect, as we seek to do God’s work as exemplified through Jesus Christ - as we are called to worship, to serve and to learn. The following two dates are for any former and current confirmation youth to engage in. We invite any interested  youth and adults to join us on these dates. Contact Laura May at the church if you would like to go.

May 17th: 9:30 am-11:00 am

We will travel together or meet at St. Paul’s in Kansas City, Kansas to serve breakfast to the community. Breakfast at St. Paul’s has been going on for over 5 years every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. week in and week out. Each week over 200 Kansas City residents come to the parish to eat a breakfast provided by volunteers from several local churches.

St. Paul's Parish Picnic

Trinity Sunday, May 18

Right after the 10:30 service. This year’s picnic features Stroud’s fried chicken and cinnamon rolls! (you bring the sides). As if that’s not enough to get your excitement up there will be LuLu Bell the Face Painter (best in KC!) and a moon walk for the kids.  The is no charge, but we do need to know you are coming so we can order plenty of food. RSVP to the church 816-931-2850.

Parish Photo Directory

Sundays, May 18, May 25, & June 1

We’re working on a new photo directory for the parish. The photos will be on the website in a password-protected directory (we’ll also print out directories for those who would like a hardcopy). We will begin taking photos on May 18th after each service. We’ll take the photos at different parts of the campus on different days, so pick the one you like best.

  • May 18th: In front of the altar; in front of the tower doors (outside)

  • May 25th: In front of the windows in the chapel; by the baptismal font

  • June 1st: In front of the cross in the churchyard; in the Garden Room

If you’re unable to make it to any of these days, send the curate an e-mail (tbruce@stpauls-kcmo.org) and we’ll find a day that works for you.
