Community Garden
A special thanks to Tarz
and Sandy Embry for their support in getting the garden weed-free and plowed! St. Paul's is one of
several Episcopal churches to recognize gardening as a community outreach and
ministry to our church members and to our urban community. As of July, 2007, St.
Paul's is in the process of renovating and expanding the current garden space to
include a large area to grow fresh vegetables for our pantry clients and people
in the neighborhood desiring fresh produce but who are not able to afford it
otherwise. Our vision is to uphold the General Convention's resolution that
states, "The Millennium Develop Goals (MDGs) will be a mission priority of the
Episcopal Church for the next three years." We also strive to work toward the
Episcopal Community Service's Anti-Hunger Network by helping to feed hungry
folks and to make every effort to stamp out hunger.
What can you do to
help?
-
Let Tarz Embry know if
you are able to help install a new fence on a future workday.
-
Help contribute
financially so that the needed materials can be purchased.
-
Share your interest
and knowledge in gardening and composting.
-
Save and bring in your
aluminum cans. Funds from this collection will help to purchase needed items.
St. Paul's community garden is located on the east side of the church on the corner of Walnut and 40th streets. The garden is open to anyone who wants to manage a plot or several plots. Plots are also reserved by people in the community. Help us with the garden, be a "garden angel" and weed or help with repairs and other things as needed.
